Vacation
Apologies for the lack of updates. I have been in Asia (China, Korea, Japan) for past 3 weeks and it’s bit tough to update when you are traveling. Actually I took my laptop and was expecting to do some work but that didn’t quite work out. I figured Asia must be super well connected (internet) everywhere, right? Wrong. Internet was almost non-existent in China. Korea and Japan were better but my laptop didn’t have the right fonts installed for the latest strip so that didn’t quite work out. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Anyways, here are random things I noticed.
- Beijing is more modern and cleaner than I thought.
- You can’t get that authentic Panda Express taste in China (and that’s a bad thing).
- China is not the most tourist friendly nation (bad customer service, no one speaks any english, etc).
- Japanese are really courteous.
- Japanese hotels are small but really well thought out.
- Japanese really really like to gift wrap everything into small tiny cute packages.
- Koreans move 20% faster than everyone else (everyone’s in a rush).
- Koreans really really I mean REALLY like Starcraft. 2 full time Starcraft tournament channels.
- Asian girls are hot (especially ones in Japan and Korea).
Oh, I did try Mochi in Japan and Korea and I must say they were most delicious. Soooo much better than ones in U.S.

Name the group contest!
Ok, we are having our very first contest ever. Not really sure who visits and checks out the strips on the regular bases but we’d like to give those visitors chance to win a Mochi tee. Yay! First person to correctly guess the group Fam (Famine) is listening to on his ipod on the latest strip, you can win a tee. Of course, it wouldn’t be fair without any clues. So here are the clues…
- Name of this group consist of three letters.
- Rolling Stone magazine ranked this group 83rd on their list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” in 2004.
- They are self claimed “The World’s Most Dangerous Group”.
If you have an idea, add a comment (1 per person, anonymous comments will not be counted) to this entry with your guess. The first person to correctly guess will receive the tee below. If you win but we don’t have your shirt size available, we’ll substitute it with another tee.Good luck to all!!!!

What does “I’m Korean” mean?
In the last panel of this strip people often comment, “I don’t get it”. What does “I’m Korean” mean? Well… other than the fact that “Famine” character is based on myself who happens to be Korean, there’s actual logic behind it. Mochi is made of rice. And there are many different types of rice people of all different nationalities eat. The type of rice most Koreans enjoy are sticky rice. And in the strip, “Famine” was chopped in half but he was able to put himself back together because he’s “sticky” rice. Duh!
I suppose it’s probably not a good joke if most people don’t get it. Nevertheless, I believe sometimes not knowing the reason behind the joke makes it a joke itself. But for those who have to the “get’ the joke to enjoy, now you have your explaination.
So out of all those who saw the strip first time around, who “got” the joke and who didn’t? Enquiring minds want to know.

Liitle bit about their background…
What most people don’t know about Mochi is that they are based on real people. They are based on 3 of my friends and I. Four of us often hung out on weekends going to bars, clubs, parties, etc. Basically doing typical guy stuff. And because there were four of us, we called ourselves “four horsemen”, based on Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. And each one of us claimed the moniker “Pestilence”, “Death”, “Famine” and “War” based on our characteristics after night of drinking.
“Pestilence” or “Pez” for short was often sick with cold, flu, or some other alignment every other weekend. “Death” aka “Dee” was always getting sick after few rounds of drinks and was often found puking his guts out by the garbage can. “Famine” aka “Fam” had the bottomless pit of a stomach so after night of drinking, he’d end up at Taco Bell ordering half dozen Tacos. And lastly, “War” would end up getting 86ed (kicked out) because he was a violent drunk.
As the story develops in coming weeks, you will realize that each Mochi characters have their own distinct personality. This is also a direct interpretation of our real life persona. “Pez” the fat one is the rather dumb with tendency to do things without thinking of the consequences. He is also often made fun of by other Mochi. “Dee” is the tall one and he is the most logical one with common sense. And “Fam” is the little one that is most silly and daring. He is most likely to do silly things and make stupid comments. “War” is a character that hasn’t been introduced yet but he will be making his appearance in the future.

Welcome Mochi-maniacs!
Hi and welcome to “The Mochi”… in full color! Mochi used to be part of on-going comic strip on II stix for about 4 years. Now with it’s own home, the strip will be updated on a semi-regular basis and we hope to bring you new stuff along with reincarnation of old stuff. This has been a long interesting journey but we hope this journey has happy ending.
Check back often to see what’s new cause there are many good things planned down the line.
